Here’s an email I received from a member of our ‘Upscale Success Strategies’ Group:

Subject: Content ideas
Hello Jaimie,
I well remember our call a couple of months or so ago and appreciate still your willingness to engage with me as someone who wants to make a difference, not as someone out to make a lot of money. I am sometimes offended that marketing people assume making a sh*t-load of money is everyone’s objective.
I suspect there are a growing number of us.
Still, I know that marketing ideas can help me because I do need to reach people in order to make a difference. I think my biggest obstacle is fear and I’m not sure I know exactly what I’m afraid of. Perhaps – at least in part – I’m afraid people will think I’m marketing on behalf of making money for myself. I have come to see that no matter how much money a person makes, it won’t add to their fulfillment in life. Maybe temporary happiness.
Anyway, these are my thoughts. Do you see some way to tailor one of your presentations?
Warmly,
Shirley
Here’s the response I sent to Shirley:
Hi Shirley,
Thank you for your message. We appreciate your topic request.
Regarding your comments, I agree with your sentiment that making money should not be the sole objective for business owners. I think a good majority of us love our business model when we can make a difference in the lives of others AND we can support our lifestyle—whether frugal or extravagant.
I think the fear you are experiencing is understandable and even legitimate. But I would ask you to consider…
In working towards making a genuine impact on the lives of others, would you agree that those ‘others’ need to be willing to invest (time, money, or both) in the transformation they are seeking? If your answer is, ‘yes,’ then my next question for you to consider is…
Marketing and selling is a means to an end, but does not have to be ‘smarmy.’ IF people resonate with your messaging, and they want to have positive outcomes, they will be willing to invest in that change. If they aren’t, then they aren’t (yet) ready to achieve their desired results. Keep sharing yourself and your message, and you will attract the right ones who want what you—and only you—can uniquely provide. AND they will recognize this and be willing to pay to have it. I would encourage you not to feel shame or guilt around helping others and being compensated for your uniqueness and all you bring to bear.
I hope this ‘reframe’ helps you in some small way.
Yours in Business Success,
Jaimie Skultety, CEO
