How I Uncovered an Effective Solution to this Problem
When I first started my business, I was certain that if I had a website, an endless stream of people would ‘flock’ to it, and then we would do business together.
I mean with a website I would be easily be discovered, and I knew my trusted friend Google would be my ‘partner’ to get it done.
I worked long and hard to design my website—and it was beautiful. Not only visually appealing but ‘on point’ in a myriad of ways. It was clear and concise in messaging (described what I do and how working with me was a solid solution for ‘getting it all done’), my services were detailed and outlined in a professional way, and the ‘About Me’ page was inviting and engaging.
I was intensely proud of my website… and I just KNEW people would show up and want to hire me. I mean, why wouldn’t they? I had it ‘all’ to offer.
But after a few weeks, I started to wonder…
‘Where are my Peeps?’
I started checking to be sure my phone and email still worked! ‘Is this thing on?’
I thought, ‘Maybe I need to tweak my website a bit more. Fine-tune it.’
Perhaps I needed to come off as being even MORE professional, MORE clear and concise, MORE engaging?
I tweaked and tweaked and tweaked—for months on end!
And still…
it was crickets.
Then I learned how to check my Google Analytics account, so I could find out how many people were visiting my website.
Hmmm… That’s odd.
I had zero website visitors.
How can this be?
Was Google on holiday?
Analytics not installed properly on my site?
What the heck is the darn problem!? I simply didn’t understand what I was ‘missing.’
And I was in complete and utter despair.
I wished I could figure out how to get people to come to my website.
Except for the few business cards I picked up at the Chamber of Commerce breakfasts and Speed Networking events, I didn’t have an email list.
Heck, even if I did, I couldn’t afford a service to keep in touch with them!
I couldn’t afford to advertise. (If you know my story, you know I started my business with just my unemployment check).
I knew I had to figure out how to make the most of whatever ‘free’ marketing tools I could find.
I was so frustrated thinking,
‘HOW can I get myself and my website in front of people who NEED my help?”
If I could just figure out how to GET people to my website, then I’ll have this problem solved. Right?
I mean my skills were on full display (with my endless list of services)—
‘What’s going to set me apart?’ I wondered.
What could I do to DEMONSTRATE the relief my clients would feel in hiring me to work with them?
Clearly, I couldn’t just sit back and hope they ‘show’ up with their credit card in hand.
To get more clients and grow my business, I knew I needed to ATTRACT more people (ideal clients) who NEEDED my help.
I spent a lot of time trying and failing, but I finally figured out a ‘recipe’ for an effective Social Media strategy…
A strategy that gets me directly in front of my ideal prospects—with just the right messaging they need to hear.
